MAXXflo EVO Lite provides top class hot water solution at Merchiston School

A new Andrews Water Heaters MAXXflo EVO Lite 25/201 has been installed by Lothian Heating Services at Merchiston Castle School near Edinburgh to provide reliable, high efficiency hot water provision at its Pringle Teaching Centre.

The prestigious independent boarding and day school prides itself on its excellent facilities – and the modern Pringle Centre is no exception. The Centre is used to provide a gentle transition for students moving from primary to secondary school style education.

Lothian Heating Services provides the School with heating and hot water installation and maintenance services. When the non-condensing water heater at the Pringle Centre needed replacing, they recommended the high specification Andrews’ MAXXflo EVO Lite.

Revised efficiency requirements for direct-fired water heaters, outlined in Approved Document L and Section 6 of Scottish Building Regulations, effectively rule out like-for-like non-condensing water heater replacement in the vast majority of buildings. Upgrading to high-performance condensing water heaters, which are up to 20% more efficient than non-condensing, provides organisations with a more sustainable solution to hot water generation, helping mitigate rising energy costs.

The ErP A-rated MAXXflo EVO Lite 25/201 achieves outstanding water efficiency of 103%, vastly exceeding the ErP 91% water efficiency requirement for energy class A. With excellent gross efficiencies of up to 98%, this output model offers high recovery water heater rates up to 386 ltr/hr.

“Andrews Water Heaters are always our first choice for water heaters,” said Lothian Heating Services’s Kevin Liston. “We chose the MAXXflo EVO Lite as a quality solution to high-output hot water. The high efficiencies and considerably reduced greenhouse gas emissions also support the School’s wider sustainability goals.”

Ease of installation and maintenance were key requirements for Lothian Heating Services to ensure a reliable supply of hot water at the Pringle Centre. With a castor assembly kit available for easy manoeuvrability and positioning, and multiple flue options to enable flexible siting, the MAXXflo EVO Lite is designed for easy installation.

Ease of maintenance and improved whole life costs have also been factored into the design. The stainless-steel heat exchanger ensures reliable high performance while high water flow rates meet the building hot water demands safely and efficiently, reducing scaling and maintenance.

“The replacement went very smoothly,” continued Kevin. “The service we received was excellent. Our technical sales manager was great, providing us with technical support in selecting the appropriate water heater model. The MAXXflo EVO Lite was delivered one day, and we installed it the next! Even the new flueing system proved straightforward to install.

“Most importantly, our customer is extremely happy with the result,” he added.

The new MAXXflo EVO Lite has been specifically designed to meet industry requirements for superior energy-efficient operation, delivering a high volume of hot water from a small output. It is available in four models with outputs of 15kW, 25kW, 35kW and 45kW, with a 200-litre storage tank and recovery rates of 232 l/hr to 695 l/hr.

With stainless-steel heat exchanger tubes, a low NOx Bluejet® premix burner and cold touch burner door, the MAXXflo EVO Lite delivers energy-saving, cost-effective operation to help reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.

The integral high-efficiency ErP A-rated pump improves operating efficiency with greater temperature control and greatly reduced stratification. There is also the option to include additional features, including remote control and monitoring, an anti-vacuum valve, castor set and clip-in expansion module, for added budget flexibility.
