No rest for Andrews Water Heaters at Potters Leisure Resort

09/08/2002

When Potters Leisure Resort near Great Yarmouth recently added a newly built 84 bedroom hotel to their holiday accommodation options, Andrews Water Heaters were specified to provide the hot water services for the en suite shower and bathroom facilities.

A family run resort since 1920, it has achieved the highest accolade in tourism from the English Tourist Board and many other prestigious awards recognising the variety of facilities and wide range of holidays and short breaks available. Currently offering 51 indoor sports and leisure activities, tournaments, evening entertainment and three meals a day within the tariff, there are also various bars, restaurants and coffee shops plus health and beauty facilities in which to relax.

Whilst the majority of families staying at Potters Leisure prefer the comfortable traditional chalet-style accommodation, the new hotel provides a further option for the increasing number of couples and single guests. They are particularly drawn to the resort's unrivalled Bowling facilities, which are also renowned for hosting the televised world indoor championship. As a dependable source of hot water is essential to cater for guests using all these facilities, there are 50 or so Andrews Hi-Flo and Standard range units located around the site.

John Harris, spokesperson for Potters Leisure Resort explains, "Being independent gas-fired units they are very economical to run and are particularly well-suited to being installed in a decentralised system, operating in zones with the flexibility to add more units into the system as the resort has grown. Over the years this has saved no end of system redesign and replacement, which could
otherwise have been very costly. Based on all these past performance factors and the need for a fast recovery rate at times of peak usage, Andrews Hi-Flo units were chosen for the new Hotel.”

According to Alan Scarff of installing company, FG Fennell, "In addition to the usual requirements of high efficiency hot water production at both peak and normal loads in sufficient quantities, it was necessary to keep the size of plant rooms for hotel services as small as possible to maximise space available for guest rooms. The compact size to generous output ratio offered by the Andrews Hi-Flo storage water heaters meets this criterion very well.

Also being independently fired enabled the hot water system to be designed in three zones each with its own small plant room where two Hi-Flo model 54/440 unvented system Auto Ignition units stand close together. The units installed each has a storage capacity of 245 litres and at 44ºC rise, recovers 1988 litres/hr. This has proved ample for demand at all times and was easy to calculate at the design stage using Andrews' Size-It computerised product sizing guide.”
