Andrews has supplied the largest model of MAXXFLO high efficiency condensing storage water heater to provide an energy efficient showering solution at Bedale Leisure Centre in North Yorkshire. Also installed, adjacent to the water heater, is an R301 Supa-Heat condensing boiler to provide space heating in a cost effective and environmentally friendly manner. The units, which both have a rectangular footprint, occupy the smallest possible area in a plant room where space is extremely restricted.
The Leisure Centre, which sits next to Bedale High School, has recently been extended - new additional changing rooms, a new larger Zest Health & Fitness gym, a new Zest Health & Fitness studio for dry side classes, plus storage space for the sports hall and gym were created. And improvements were made to the car and cycle parking area.
The leisure centre - which serves the community of Bedale and the surrounding areas - is also used by local primary and secondary schools during the day. The system was designed by Hambleton District Council, in association with installers, Quartz Ltd. and they also selected the equipment.
Hambleton District Council's Building Services Manager, Steve Prentice, said the authority has been pleased with Andrews' comprehensive product literature and 'Size-It' software program which was extremely helpful in designing the system. "The brochure pack identified numerous options for us and we were able to calculate heat loads with the aid of the disk supplied to enable us to choose the most energy efficient option for our needs,” he said "We were impressed by the efficiency of both the boiler, which fires only on demand in order to reduce energy consumption and the storage water heater. Both use condensing technology for maximum energy efficiency which is a major priority at Hambleton District Council.”
Another advantage of the Andrews equipment is its physical size and shape. As the new facility is built on school land, Hambleton District Council was anxious to ensure that the plant room dimensions were kept to a minimum. The rectangular design of Andrews' MAXXFLO water heater enabled it to be installed alongside the boiler in less space than would have been required for a conventional cylindrical model.
The R300 Series Supa-Heat boiler installed is the smallest size in the range, giving 70Kw output and, using condensing technology, achieves 104% (net)
efficiency. Its downward firing blown gas pre-mix burner that modulates between 20% and 100% provides ultra low NOx and CO2 emissions, qualifying it for the Energy Technology List.
R300 boilers are particularly efficient under part load conditions, noise levels are a very low 50 dB(A) and the range offers nominal outputs from 70kW to 275kW. The MAXXFLO range of condensing storage water heaters has tank options of 100 litres capacity with an output of 30kW, 200 and 300 litres capacity, each with four output sizes from 30 to 120 kW. The high efficiency stainless steel heat exchangers, premix modulating gas burners and stainless steel tank design allow the heater to generate hot water in the condensing mode up to 80% of the tank volume, producing a net efficiency of 109%. MAXXflo units have a small footprint and offer multiple flue options for ease of siting.
